I just found out that the premium from AIG for a brand new Merc is easily 50% more than other insurers.

Comparing the coverage, AIG covers total loss replacement for new vehicles less than 12 months old (an important feature I felt), replacement Merc during repair (not so important), higher PA coverage (not so important).

With this, the cost differential seems too much still.

Besides the above, are there any other considerations for or against signing up with AIG for a new Merc ?

Any advice appreciated.

If you r buying a new mercs from c&c, take up the in-house insurance (AIG) is better as it offers one to one replacement for the first year. For the peace of mind. Yes, the premium is no doubt higher but it is commonly offset by some extra feebies (sponsored by the in-house insurance company) which the SE will throw in. After the first year, you can switch insurance as the offers outside are much cheaper for the same coverage.

Thanks. Yes the 1 for 1 replacement does provide peace of mind & is the key difference with other insurer.

No other freebies offered, no further discount & in fact, a lower NCD was applied !

The 50% difference in premium works out to be about $600 - $700 more.

gonna have to renew insurance next month, currently using China Taiping.

car is 11 months old

want to ask for 2nd year insurance, would it still make sense to indicate "Any Workshop" instead of "Authorized Workshop", from the C&C warranty perspective ?

cost savings probably around 15% if choose "Authorised Workshop" of insurer.

appreciate any advice.
