change new headlight or headlight restoration

Visited two workshops today, each giving me their views on the pros of changing the whole headlight and doing a headlight restoration. What are your views?

I've also noticed the wires behind my headlights have deteriorated. Will it be a concern if I do a HiD conversion? Please give me advice big brothers! :)

It would probably help if you posted info on the headlights and pics of what you're talking about. That would help for example is knowing why you need a restoration or change in the first place. If it's just yellowing on the outside then there are DIY restoration kits you can buy. Please provide more and specific info.

apparently those problems you mentioned is not uncommon. Usually most people will replace the whole headlamp as the wirings in housing already corroded. You can choose option for HID. Sonic does that.

Common problem for which model?

the ones I have seen are w203. I believe various models do have such issue due to our hot climate.

Ok, so it's a regional matter as on other international boards I've yet to come across this as being common with the exception of the OP's car the W211 E-Class does have this issue which I believe was because of bad materials used in the lens. However this issue is a easy DIY fix with brand name headlight restoration kits and some beer.

I found some threads on another board that have documented the process giving you a before and after image. This should show you that you can save lots just with some elbow grease. Also, I would recommend adding some sort of film/tint over the lens after you restore them to protect from both road hazards and sunlight.

polished my headlamps and placed a layer of clear film over the headlamps the past weekend. Results are good i must say, not as good as changing the whole headlamp units altogeher but at least the grime is off! Really appreciate the advice from the bros here! $100 well spent!

will post my before and after pics for any bros who's interested for a headlamp restoration job!

now tempted to do a hiD xenon conversion lol... anybody know the difference between Philips DiamondVision and X-tremeVision bulbs?

I went to my regular workshop in jb to get it fixed. No spray painting, they'll paste a clear film over your headlights to protect from foreign objects. Nice team of techs there btw

bro... can share the address... would love to have a clear film for my ride... =)
