Switching Insurance - Beware of AIG

What you expect when you try to switch insurance companies, better benefits, less excess, less premium and ofcourse NCD to remain same. What if you were switched (forced) to AIG, you get more and less same benefit, higher excess, higher premium and on top of it your NCD was totally scrapped :(.

This is what happened to me.

To cut story short,

- My NCD dropped from 20% to 0%.

- When I have submitted my past policy with NCD 20% mentioned on it, it was restored to 10%.

- When I called to clarify on why 10%, I got a reply: "<My past insurer> says if I would have continue with them, I would get 20% but on changing insurer <My past insurer> provide only 10% and AIG will follow it"

AIG has very poor customer support and almost no communication with customer. After 1 email, 1 fax and 2 calls from myside, I still need to get any call back.

The questions raised by this incident..

- I fail to understand why AIG trying to protect her competitor instead for her customer?

- If last year I was on 10% and I have not made any claim, why would not I get 20%? Why can't AIG decide on it and dependent upon what other company's feedback?

- Is not insurance policy a legal document to provide proof of NCD?

- Is the NCD linked to insurer company or insured?

- Is not indirectly AIG telling me go back to past insurer?

...to be continued

They told me is the onus of the new insurance company decide your NCD!! So ask your new insurance company instead.

If you are so not happy with your insurer, then change it....you can change anytime...as many time as you want...

The issue here is the NCD who decide the previous or new insurer? I was told is the new!!

Bro try Asia Direct. Purchase online. Cheap n you get to choose what you want to be insured. If u have installed in car camera will get discount.

Car Camera installed = applicable for discount...what if your car cam happens NOT to record during the accident?

Will these jokers reduced their liability or start to ding dong....?

All I can say is, you'll never know bro you'll never know. Easy way out for them is to find a "loophole" and refund you your premium pro rata.

i also think there might be some *exclusion so small that no one reads them or could understand wtf they are trying to say or refer until its too late...

Refund Premium pro rata or refund full year is not ganna help in any case when one need the insurance policy to cover the damages...

So sucks of them to have this refund premium process to zero their liability. :startle:

Well everything/anything also possible.

So its up to us consumers.

Afraid then pay whatever insurer quoted and just suck thumb.

If not take the cheapest and hope nothing happens for the next 12 months.

I opted for the later. Reason is they still come up with all sorts of rubbish excuses to avoid paying us.

You can change to the insurer you want, even for new CnC Car which usually they tie up with AIG if the price or NCD offered is not as competitive as others and I just did that to my new registration with CnC. AIG offered me 30% NCD while my current insurer offer 50% NCD (one small claim previous year with NCD protector), and surprisingly the rate and the excess even better before my renewal rate (excess change from $2,500 to $100)

For NCD, like other bro said, it must be full 2 years (365 days x 2) before you can get 20% discount,

Perhaps you could drop me a PM?

I may be able to assist.

I just like you to know that the EXISTING insurer decides the NCD.

Not the new insurer.

AIG is not the best for insurance premiums.

They charged me > S$ 1.2K for my C180 Coupe, Age 32, 50%NCD.

When I went to search, I found a company that quotes me S$783.

Go figure.

Even lower excess, and more FOC windshield replacements..

Which I sadly utilised early last month..

  • 4 weeks later...

Thanks all for advice!!!

I have quit AIG and went back to previous insurer. Got my 20% NCD, Excess $250(chosen lowest since C&C is not approved list, need to pay double excess to repair at it), Premium: $1520 ($500 less than AIG).

Not a single word from AIG why I am leaving them... can companies survive these days without appreciating feedback??
